A site for personal choice and no state interference.

Hi Stardock,

You do really have a very professional web presence.
I have a problem and it is interferring with my assessment and enjoyment of your products.
I have taken the gamble of purchasing a licence for WindowBlinds. I was considering Buying Object Desktop, but I have had various niggles with Icon Packager and IconX trial versions.

My current problem is that I am unable to download WindowBlinds(Enhanced) or Stardock Central. So am unable to use my purchased WindowBlinds Licence or consider purchasing further enhancements.

The download starts but claims completion at about the 500Kb size. The downloaded file will of course not run, presumably because it is incomplete. The error message states that the file is not a valid win32 application.

I am a UK resident, at present on vacation in Florida, using a NetZero dialup package, which seems to work well in all other respects.

Any help much appreciated.

Phil

Not that I can address from Stardocks perspective but two questions for you based on my past experience.

What browser are you using
Do you use a download manager program?

The error message states that the file is not a valid win32 application.
This indicates a corrupted download.

I am a UK citizen, with a life sentence in Florida

and yeah sounds like the initial DL is corrupted.

1. use internet explorer for your browser.
2. do not use a download program.
3. verify your connection...;
a. go to control panel and internet options
b. check the connections tab and look to see the dial-up connection is there.
c. also be sure there is nothing like a script or proxy service listed in the lan connections at the bottom of that windows.[ie.. lan settings button and all check box's are not checked]
4. go to your network connections in control panel and disable the lan network connection. leave the dial-up connection for your net zero.

Most more than any other time... a dial-up account will gather info from other connections. Meaning if there is a setting with other connections... it will make the dial-up account not work correctly. By removing and/or disabling these other connections. you should be able to connect properly and get your downloads. Otherwise if this does not work. It is the connection you are trying to use that is not allowing you to download for some reason. Probably a good one too! As they would see it. [NetZero that is!]

Thanks for all that.
Have been trying since.
Have managed to download two download managers as IE 7 wasn't coping on its own.
Tried Download Acceleration Manager(DAM), chose this because smaller file and IE 7 managed to get it on its own.
Tried FreshDownload, DAM managed to get this 2.5MB file, and various of it's settings.
One problem is that the Stardock DL won't support resumes.
Download slows to 0Kb and gives up.
I'm sure Netzero and Dialup limitations are to blame, but would still be interested in a work round if one existed.

Hi, I've sorted everything out with the degree of tenacity required for dial-up life! Sorry carriage return not working on post editor! Download Accelerator Manager coped with getting Stardock Central. The server supported resumes, not so for WB6(enhanced). After that Stardock Central seemed to have a better relationship with my dial-up and the Stardock servers! Now got registered WB6 and IconPackager. Phil

Sorry carriage return not working on post editor!

If you are using the Stardock Central program to post on the forums then try Ctrl+M for carriage return.
